An attic in Forsyth County can sit above 130 degrees on a July afternoon, and in most Cumming homes the air handler and the duct runs are up there with it. Attic insulation in Cumming, GA, is the cheapest fix available for a house that won’t hold temperature upstairs, and it’s the first thing worth checking before anyone starts talking about a new HVAC system. Anthem Insulation & Home has been handling this work for over ten years as part of our insulation services in Cumming, GA.
Georgia’s energy code sets R-38 as the attic minimum in this climate zone, which works out to roughly fourteen inches of blown fiberglass. A lot of Cumming subdivisions built through the 1990s and early 2000s went in at R-30 or less, and blown-in loose fill settles a couple of inches over its first two decades on top of that.
There’s a rough check you can do yourself. If you can see the tops of the ceiling joists when you look across the attic floor, you’re well under code. Joists are typically eight or ten inches deep, so insulation level with them puts you somewhere around R-25.
Blown fiberglass is what goes into most attics we do. It fills irregular spaces, it’s fast, and it’s the least expensive way to add depth over an existing floor. Batts make more sense on a knee wall or a floored attic where loose fill has nowhere to sit.
Mineral wool comes up for homes that need better fire performance or sound control between floors. Open-cell spray foam insulation applied to the roof deck is a different approach entirely, bringing the attic inside the conditioned space rather than insulating the floor beneath it, and it’s worth considering when the ductwork is the main problem.
Insulation slows heat. It does almost nothing to stop air, and an attic floor is full of holes that move air freely between the house and the attic. Top plates, wiring penetrations, plumbing chases, bath fan housings, and recessed can lights all leak, and burying them under fourteen inches of fiberglass leaves the leak in place.
We seal those first. The attic hatch gets weather stripped, since an uninsulated pull-down stair is one of the biggest single gaps in most houses. Baffles go in at the eaves so the new depth doesn’t block the soffit vents and choke off attic ventilation.
Not every attic needs to be cleared out. If the existing material is dry, clean, and evenly distributed, a top off adds depth over what’s already there for a fraction of the cost of starting over.
Removal is the call when rodents have been through it, when a roof leak has soaked a section, or when the material has compacted to the point that depth no longer means anything. Contaminated insulation comes out completely, the deck gets cleaned, and new material goes in over a sealed floor.
Every project opens with a free home energy audit, so the recommendation comes from what’s actually in your attic rather than a guess over the phone. New customers get 10% off insulation services, and veterans and first responders get 10% off as well. Financing is available on larger projects.
Treating your home like our own is the standard we hold crews to, which on an attic job means drop cloths through the house, a clean hatch at the end of the day, and an honest answer when a top off would serve you better than a full replacement.

Sawyer and his team did an exceptional job with our blown insulation project. Our project was unique as the team had no access to the attic and had to work through speaker holes and can light holes. The team was respectful of all of our belongings, laying down tarps and plastic. The team was patient and happy to work with all my pickiness and oversight. Definitely recommend Anthem Insulation for your home or business.
I had a great experience working with them. The price they quoted was lower than I was expecting. They were not pushy, even though it took me 3 months to get around to scheduling the work after the estimate. The spray insulation work was high quality, and looks great.
I was unexpectedly not able to be home when they showed up to do the work so I left the door unlocked and the check on the counter. They were super professional, and took care of everything without me needing to be there. Couldn’t ask for anything more, I’d definitely recommend this place.
